Discover the Muslim Heritage in Our World Through Art and Science

The Islamic world’s contribution to the arts, sciences and civilization is myriad and expansive. 1,001 Inventions: Muslim Heritage in Our World reveals the golden age of Muslim civilization and highlights the enormous contribution to science and technology made by men and women of different faiths and cultures who lived in the Muslim world. For over 1,000 years, scholars working, thinking and collaborating in the Muslim world added to the ancient knowledge of the Egyptians, Greeks and Romans, making breakthroughs that paved the way for the Renaissance.

Jefferson High School Community Multicultural Film Festival: My So Called Enemy

In July 2002, 22 Palestinian and Israeli teenage girls came to the U.S. to participate in a women’s leadership program called Building Bridges for Peace. “My So Called Enemy” is a coming of age story about 6 of the program participants and how they reconcile their transformative experience in the program with the realities of life back home in the Middle East over the next 7 years.

 Film Screening: Late for my Mother’s Funeral

Former Portland director Penny Allen’s (PROPERTY, PAYDIRT) new film is the intimate, turbulent portrait of a French-Algerian-Moroccan family residing in Algeria and adrift following the death of their mother, Zineb, a notorious smuggler of gold and jewels. 

When: December 16th, 2013 7:00 pm
