Extra credit events in January

Arabic students can earn extra credit by attending extra-credit events and writing a short reflection in English based on the extra-credit guidelines.

Due to the one-time nature of these events, I am unable to screen them ahead of time for content.

Film Screening: Inside Islam: What a Billion Muslims Really Think

This documentary explores the expertly gathered opinions of Muslims around the globe as revealed in the world’s first major opinion poll, conducted by Gallup, the preeminent polling organization. The event will begin with a potluck dinner (please no pork or pork products) followed by a screening of the film and group discussions. Presented by the Institute for Christian-Muslim Understanding.

Art and Nonviolent Resistance in Syria

Join us for a screening of the film, The Suffering Grasses, followed by a panel discussion featuring Omar Offendum, hip hop artist; Taghrid Khuri, adjunct member of faculty for International Studies & Women’s Studies, Portland State University; and Steve Nakana, Rotary Fellow.

Omar Offendum will conclude the event with a hip hop performance.

Film screening: The People and the Olive

The documentary film “The People and the Olive: the story of the run across Palestine” will be shown to raise awareness about the struggles of the Palestinian Fair Trade olive farmers in the Canaan Fair Trade cooperatives in the West Bank. Middle Eastern snacks served.  All are welcome.

Notes: Free parking available in underground parking garage (off SW 12th).
