Extra credit events in September

Arabic students can attend the following events in September and earn extra credit after writing a reflection.  Click on the tap at the top of the page to find the extra credit policy and reflection guidelines.  Event descriptions are taken from the newsletter of the PSU Middle East Studies Center.

Maharajan Arab Festival

Mark Saturday, Sept 22 on the calendar for the third annual Mahrajan hosted by the Arab American Cultural Center of Oregon. This event is the largest celebration of Arab heritage and culture in the state! The festival will take place from 11am-7pm at the Sylvania campus of Portland Community College (12000 SW 49th Avenue, Portland), in the Performing Arts Center lobby and courtyard. Free parking is available on site.

Delicious Arab cuisine, Arab souq (bazaar), arts and crafts, henna painting, cooking demonstrations, music, dance, poetry, children’s activities and a raffle for prizes…the list goes on and on! This day-long, alcohol-free and tobacco-free event showcases the arts, entertainment, food, traditions, and most importantly, the spirit of Oregon’s Arab American community, reflecting their diversity and contributions to Oregon’s cultural landscape.

Where: Portland Community College – Sylvania Campus, 1200 SW 49th Ave, Portland.

Cost: $5 entrance donation.

Portland Arabic Language Group

When: Every Sunday, 11:00 am
Where: Park Avenue Cafe at SW Market & Park, Portland

Have you ever been curious about the Arabic language and Arabic culture? Did you learn some Arabic on a vacation to Egypt or take a class in college and haven’t used it in years? Come join the Portland Arabic Language Group to practice the language. The group is open to anyone regardless of their level of fluency – from the curious, to the beginner, to the native speaker.
