The YES Scholarships: Win a scholarship to study abroad for a year!

Are you itching to get out of the American high school scene?  Are you graduating and not sure if you’re ready to go directly to college? Consider applying for one of the YES Scholarships, which apply full funding for high school students (including graduating seniors) to spend a year abroad in country with a significant Muslim population.

From the AFS  website:

What does YES Abroad offer?

  • Full academic scholarships to study for up to one year in: Bosnia and Herzegovina, Egypt, Ghana, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Mali, Morocco, Oman, Thailand and Turkey
  • Home-stay and high school experiences that help build mutual understanding between Americans and citizens of countries with significant Muslim populations
  • Opportunities to explore religious diversity in non-Western cultures

Am I eligible?

Eligible students are:

  • U.S Citizens
  • High school students at the time of application
  • Aged 15 – 18

How are winners selected?

  • Applications for the 2012-13 academic year must be submitted online by January 11, 2012 through the YES Abroad website.
  • YES Abroad staff and volunteers screen applicants and choose semi-finalists based on eligibility and demonstrated qualities
  • Semi-finalists participate in a group interview event in early spring
  • Scholarship finalists are announced in April
