Extra credit event: Al-Andalus Ensemble in concert

What does it sound like when musicians from Morocco and Spain play together?  Find out on Saturday night by watching the al-Andalus Ensemble in concert at Reed College.

The sponsoring World Affairs Council of Oregon said of the event:

Experience this vital, energetic and beautiful performance featuring oudist Tarik Banzi and the internationally acclaimed Al-Andalus Ensemble. “Al-Andalus” refers to the culturally rich period of Spanish history from 711–1492 AD, when the region witnessed a cultural melding between Africa, the East and the West, as well as among Christians, Muslims & Jews—producing among other delights, the wonderful “Andalusian music.” This contemporary World-chamber ensemble charts between East and West, between the classical and the modern, subtly blending influence from classical, jazz and contemporary music with musical traditions from the Middle East, North Africa and Europe.

This event will take place at 7:30 on Saturday, April 9th at the Kaul Auditorium at Reed College (3203 SE Woodstock Blvd.).  Tickets for students are $10; you may purchase tickets here or at the door.
