First Arab Festival

Attention, Arabic students: you can get extra credit for attending this cultural event and writing about it! Details can be found in your handout from the first day of class.

Here’s the description from the Arab American Cultural Center of Oregon:

“Delicious Arab cuisine, Arab souq (bazaar), arts and crafts, henna painting, music, dance, poetry, children’s activities…the list goes on and on in terms of entertainment at the first Arab festival – Mahrajan – hosted by the Arab American Cultural Center of Oregon (AACCO)!

This day-long, alcohol-free event showcases the arts, entertainment, food, traditions, and most importantly, the spirit of Oregon’s Arab-Americans, reflecting their diversity and contributions to Oregon’s cultural landscape. Sponsors include Portland Community College, Sylvania Campus; Portland State University, Middle East Studies Center; and many more.

An entrance donation of $5 includes three raffle tickets; individual raffle tickets are available for purchase on-site at $2 each.”

The event will take place on Sunday, Sept. 26, from 11 a.m.-7 p.m. It’s at the Fulton Community Center (68 SW Miles Street, near SW Barbur Blvd. and SW Third Avenue).
